Sharp Aquos LC32D44U 32-inch 720p LCD HDTV

Posted on August 1 2009 by admin

At under $500, the Sharp Aquos LC32D44U 32-inch 720p LCD HDTV is quite a showpiece.  It’s quite sleek looking with Sharp’s signature D44U Series black cabinet and table stand.  Plus, you can easily remove this cabinet if you plan on mounting it on the wall.  It’s lightweight at 29.8 pounds and can be easily handled with its smaller dimensions 9.1 X 30.6 X 22.6 inches.  So, while you probably will want the assistance of a helper if you plan on hanging it on the wall, you could probably handle this unit by yourself if you just plan on setting it up on the table.

This television comes with 2 HDMI ports, meaning that you can attach a couple of external devices to the machine.  It also has a PC input so you can plug your computer into the system and use the television as a very, very large monitor.  This could come in handy if you’re planning on showing something to family or friends.  They won’t have to crowd around your desk.

The Aquos LC32D44U is relatively responsive with 6ms response time, which should help with any blurring that may occur with your LCD television.  It has a wide viewing angle (176 degree high X 176 degrees wide), meaning that you, your family and guests can sit anywhere in the room and still see a clear, crisp picture.

The television has fairly high contrast ratio (7500:1) for a TV of its size and price range.  The color is extremely natural looking.  This is opposed to many other companies’ televisions, including Samsung, where the colors can seem too bright or too dark.  Sharp’s picture quality is quite natural, and the blacks of the television are more closer to a real black color as opposed to a black blue color that you often find in other LCD televisions.

There is one caveat to the above paragraph.  While most people agree that the colors of this Sharp television are quite natural, there have been some complaints that the whites can be too bright.  So, you may have to tweak this if your television is subject to the extra brightness.

While this is a complaint, generally you have to do very little tweaking to this machine.  It tends to keep its natural looking colors no matter what channel you have it on.  The backlight allows colors to stay more consistent.  And, the backlighting allows you to be able to see the screen with as little reflection as possible no matter where you decide to place your computer.

While the television does come with many different options, more than likely you will do well to keep it on Active Contrast.  This way, you know that you are not missing out on any darker colors or deeper details.

The speaker system is decent for a 32-inch detail.  But, you always have the option of adding additional speakers by using one of the HDMI ports.  You can customize your audio to one of the following settings: mono, stereo or surround where available.

The menu is easy to navigate and only takes a few minutes to get used to.  The remote, however, does take some time to familiar with.  You have to point it directly at the television, or you won’t be able to change the channels.  It’s also a little slow to respond even when you do have it pointed correctly.

For the price and the features, there is little to complain about the Sharp Aquos LC32D44U.  The colors are clear, crisp and natural.  The sound is decent, and there are enough HDMI ports if you want to connect external devices to your television.  At under $500, this unit definitely gives you great bang for your buck.
